About Theodore Whitfield

Theodore Whitfield is a professional healthcare analyst with 8 years of experience in health outcomes research with a variety of clients. In his collaborative work he has been engaged in all aspects of informatics and quantitative understanding: grant writing, data collection, data management, statistical analysis, and manuscript publication. He is currently expanding his focus to incorporate work in actuarial science and healthcare policy.

Theodore received a Doctor of Science in Biostatistics from Harvard School of Public Health in 2002, and founded the consulting company Biostatistics Solutions. He has worked with researchers at Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston University, Emory University, McLean Hospital, the University of Massachusetts, and Cleveland Clinic, assisting with a range of projects: perinatal and geriatric psychiatry, neurology, current clinical practice, magnetic resonance imaging, alternative medicine, pulmonary genomics, and gerontology. His technical experience has encompassed a wide variety of techniques, ranging from exploratory analyses to modern methods such as logistic and Cox proportional hazards regression and generalized estimating equations (GEEs). He has been a co-author on 12 peer-reviewed publications, two of which were selected for Continuing Medical Education credits, participated in a successful Federal R12 grant application, provided data management support to a 5-year R01 study, and took full responsibility for the statistical and technical management responsibilities from start to finish for two research studies.

In addition to Theodore’s extensive experience as an applied biostatistician, he has also expanded his skills by obtaining a Master’s degree in Actuarial Science from Boston University, where his coursework included topics such as corporate finance, theory of interest, financial accounting, and electronic health records, along with technical actuarial courses in life contingencies, loss models, group insurance, and pension mathematics. He has passed three Society of Actuaries (SOA) credentialing exams: Exam P (probability), Exam FM (financial mathematics), and Exam MLC (models for life contingencies).
